Oklahoma City FC ended their 2017 WPSL with a pair of victories over the weekend.
Friday night Oklahoma City FC traveled up the turnpike to take on FC Tulsa Spirit at Rogers State University. Oklahoma City FC enjoyed a well-deserved bye week the previous week, and the time off showed as the team came out rather sluggish. Megan Black scored in the eighth minute with a decisive kick that found the back of the net.
The team seemed to regroup and came out and played a dominant second half. Jaci Jones scored in the 54th minute with a right foot blast that was not in the reach of the FC Tulsa Spirit keeper. On an interesting note, Oklahoma City FC played Friday night with a variety of players. In goal was 14-year old Edmond Memorial freshman Olivia Vigil, as well as 37-year old forward Anne (Remy) Lundquist.
Saturday night Oklahoma City FC faced FC Wichita, the only team that beat Oklahoma City this season. The side came out determined and focused scoring three goals within the first 20 minutes of the match. Yazmine Ryan opened the scoring at the 12th minute, with Megan Black scoring in less than a minute. Emma Rice scored a hard earned goal at the 19th minute. Caitlyn Moore scored at the 44th minute to close out the first half.
The second half saw Oklahoma City FC defenders Charme Moore, Annabeth Fouts, Laurene Tresfeild and Laramie Hall virtually shut down FC Wichita offense. FC Wichita lone goal came off of a penalty kick by Wichita’s Brooklyn Entz.
The wins move’s OKC's WPSL record to 7-1-2, making the top position for the Southwest-North region. The Southwest Regional Championship is scheduled for Frisco, Texas on July 8th and 9th. Oklahoma City FC opponent will be named on July 3rd.
